First Medicines & Maternal Health Gathering

Anna Cuffee and I have teamed up in efforts to attend a First Medicines & Maternal Health Gathering in Minnesota. After an amazing outpour of love, support and donations from friends, family & strangers we were able to take an early morning flight on September 5th, 2019, to begin our journey reclaiming traditional medicines and practices.

Though the trip was short, we were able to gain knowledge on food sovereignty, sustainability, chest feeding and so much more. Anna and I were able to connect with other indigenous birthworkers, experience traditional foods & ceremony. We listened to elders speak, made reusable bundle bags to store and carry wooden utensils to reduce single use plastics. we learned to make our own lip balm and salves out of herbs and my favorite part of this trip was getting to see how the Prairie Island people raised and harvested buffalo traditionally on their own land. I wanted to share a few photos and leave this blog open for dialogue! Tabutne!
